Products range from Montmorency cherry jam and cherry pie filling to the apricot mustard sauce.

Every Tuesday is canning day at The Cookery. This summer Courtney and Karin (Dick and Carol’s daughters) have been assisting Diana (General Manager, Carol’s sister, and the master canner) with canning to learn the ropes!

Here are a few photos from last night, canning a batch of four berry jam!

We are exciting to be joining the 15th annual Progressive Dinner Weekends this winter. The following is an article describing the event.

A movable is the best way to describe a gourmet dinner which begins at one of Fish Creek’s historic inns, continues on to a second for the main course, then finishes at another wonderful restaurant for dessert. The Progressive Holiday Dinner Weekends are hosted by the White Gull Inn, Thorp House Inn and the Cookery Restaurant and Wine Bar. Two are scheduled for December, 2010: the weekends of Friday and Saturday, December 3 & 4, and 10 & 11. A third Holiday Progressive Dinner Weekend is scheduled for the weekend of January 7 & 8, 2011. The Thorp House and White Gull are planning memorable weekend packages, culminating Saturday evening in a five course dinner complete with live music, as you tour the two inns and the newly rebuilt Cookery, all bedecked festively for the holiday season.

THE DINNER begins at 5:30 pm, with hors d’oeuvres at the charming Thorp House Inn, built in 1902 by Freeman Thorp, of the founding family of Fish Creek. Innkeepers Chris and Sverre Falck-Pederson will be on hand to relate the history of the Thorp House, and serve the appetizers.

DINNER GUESTS will then be transported on to the White Gull Inn by horse drawn wagon past the many homes and businesses decorated for the holidays. The 114-year-old White Gull is the oldest continuing operating inn in Door County, and has received national critical acclaim for both its historic accommodations and award-winning restaurant. Innkeepers Andy and Jan Coulson and their staff will conduct tours and discuss the inn’s history before serving the salad and main course.

GUESTS then will stroll down to the Cookery Restaurant and Wine Bar for dessert. Established in 1977 by Dick and Carol Skare, the Cookery is renowned for its innovative and delicious cuisine, including wonderful homemade desserts. After a devastating fire in 2008, the Cookery reopened last year in a beautiful new building. As always, the White Gull and Thorp House will have rooms open for viewing, and live music will be featured at each stop along the way.

THE PROGRESSIVE Dinners are open to weekend guests of either the White Gull or Thorp House Inn.

To book Progressive Dinner Weekend packages or for more information, contact The White Gull Inn at (toll free) 888-364-9542 or email innkeeper@whitegullinn.com.

Since we reopened last season, we have made an effort to select wines for our list that come from wineries that are either organic, biodynamic or implement sustainable practices.

To make it a little easier to see which wines come from wineries that have “green” practices, we have updated our list with a symbol to indicate the wines that are “green” in some way.

We also select beers primarily brewed in Wisconsin since there are so many great local microbrews! The exception to the Wisconsin beers is New Belgium brewery which has great beer and is 100% wind powered.
