The story began in the 1970s at Sutter Home. One of the vats spontaneously stopped fermentation and a semi-dry rose wine was born. The winery marketed it as White Zinfandel and found phenomenal success. The popularity of White Zinfandel increased so much that in ten years Sutter Home was making and selling over thirty million liters of this wine. If we take the current position of rose wine in the U.S., it takes up to 18% of the market (of which 70% is semi-dry or semi-sweet White Zinfandel rose wine).
